One of my goals when I started my consulting practice was to work more closely with startups. I have always had a lot of respect for entrepreneurs building successful companies and wanted the opportunity to work with them.

One company I have been following for the last 5+ years has been dc-square, the developer of the successful HiveMQ MQTT broker. I met the two co-founders, Christian and Dominik, on many occasions at different IoT events. I’ve followed them online as they have positioned themselves and HiveMQ as being the place for enterprise ready MQTT. They have done a great job building the HiveMQ brand and community.

For this reason, I was thrilled when Dominik and Christian approached me to get my assistance on developing the HiveMQ marketing strategy. Over the last number of months, I have had the opportunity to get to know Dominik and Christian even better. Based on this experience, I am pleased we have agreed for me to take on a longer-term role as a senior marketing advisor for HiveMQ and dc-square.

HiveMQ is an amazing IoT and MQTT success story. There are over 80 companies using HiveMQ in production. Large brand name automotive, telecommunication, and manufacturing companies are using HiveMQ to run their new IoT applications. These are not just POC but business critical production systems. The company is self-funded and has grown their revenue an impressive 1200% over the last 4 years. They were recently recognized with the Deloitte Fast 50 award and were recently accepted into the Germany Tech Accelerator. This is a company that is solving real customer problems and seeing the results. They are making it possible for companies to achieve their digital transformation strategies.

It is going to be an exciting time working with the HiveMQ team and helping them accelerate HiveMQ and MQTT adoption in 2019. One of my first tasks is to help building out their marketing team. If you are interested in working for a successful IoT startup get in contact.

I will be working with HiveMQ on a part-time basis. I continue to work with other small and large companies, helping them build marketing and communication strategies for IoT and open source products. I am happy to work on strategy research, positioning papers, messaging documents, go-to-market plans or content creation. Please get in contact if I can be of assistance.
