My weekly round-up of interesting news and links from the world of IoT and Open Source.

1. Eclipse Fog05

Interesting to see a new project proposal in the Eclipse IoT community called fog05. If I understand correctly, this project implements much of the thinking within the OpenFog Consortium. It is nice to see an IoT reference architecture with an actual open source implementation.

2. Gartner: Four best practices for managing digital twins

I’ve been doing a lot of reading about digital twins. This seems like a useful article about best practices. It is interesting that Gartner is focusing a fair bit on digital twins.

3. Delivering a Competitive Industial IoT Edge

There are lots of articles being written about edge computing (include mine) but this article from BrightWolf is definitely the best I have read about the core technical issues of edge computing.

4. New IP Strategy from Microsoft

Last week Microsoft announced a new strategy for sharing IP with their customers. Two things about this announcement: 1) it reflects how software has become so central to most industries. MS customers are realizing the applications they are building have value beyond their usage. 2) open source is one of MS core principles. Wow, this is definitely a new MS.
