IoT and OSS Links — April 27
My weekly set of links from the world of IoT and OSS.
- Hannover Messe
This week was Hannover Messe, one of the largest industrial automation trade shows in the world. Predictably, lots of the IoT vendors were putting out news releases. Some that caught my attention:
- Microsoft continues to position Azure IoT for the manufacturing industry, including their open source Azure IoT Connected Factory.
- Scheider Electric announced some asset management solutions that target their install base of customers.
From my LinkedIn feed, I discovered this company called Tulip that seems to provide out of the box hardware and software to enable a digital factory. It almost seems like littlebits for factories. The manufacturing industry tends to be pretty conservative so it will be interesting to see what type of success they can generate.
3. Adafruit Feather becoming a standard form factor
This week a tweet from Alasdair about Adafruit Feather becoming a standard was interesting. Adafruit has created an amazing community of makers and developers. The success of the Feather is another showcase of the power of community.
Great to see the Eclipse Foundation launch the Jakarta EE community with a nice new logo, web site and an impressive set of members, including MS, Pivotal, Lightbend.
Bonus Link — Top IoT OS and Microsoft
This week I wrote an article about the state of IoT operating systems and how Microsoft’s announcement of their own IoT OS might fit into the industry.
