IoT and OSS Links — March 16
Some links I found interesting from the past two weeks:
- MQTT 5 is finally available. This slide presentation from Dominik Obermaier, CTO of HiveMQ, is a really good summary of the new changes in MQTT 5.
2. Lots of people will talk about the security and privacy concerns of an IoT connected home automation device. However, there are definitely bigger concerns for the security of connected infrastructure. This NY Times article on a hacking attempt to blowup a petrochemical plant is a good reminder.
3. UK Gov’t is talking about passing IoT security regulations. I would expect to see a lot more of this in the coming year.
4. Greenwaves Technologies has announce a new chip that target machine learning at the edge. Stacey Higginbothan wrote an interesting article about the announcement and the fact they were able to create a new chip with minimal funding . I don’t typically follow hardware but this looks like an interesting trend.
5. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) has had an incredible year of momentum. They released their annual report and some of their stats are pretty amazing.
